Dementia is a general term that describes a group of symptoms such as loss of memory, judgment, language, complex motor skills, and other intellectual functions caused by the permanent damage or death of the brain’s nerve cells.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, degenerative brain disease. It affects memory, thinking and behavior. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia in persons over the age of 65. It represents about 60% of all dementia. Typical symptoms include: trouble finding words, struggling to complete familiar actions, confusion about time, place or people, onset of new depression or irritability, personality changes or seeing and hearing things that are not there.
Unfortunately, there are no known cures for Alzheimer’s or most forms of dementia. However, there are many innovative technologies and therapies available to greatly decrease the anxieties and difficulties related to dealing with the diseases, we call this memory care.
At Quail Park, we specialize in memory care of those with these diseases and have specially trained employees to help better the lives of those affected and their family members. The layout within our 5 cottages are spacious and easy to navigate. There are no confusing corridors or hallways. All exterior doors are locked and secure while our backdoors are open and lead to a spacious, secure courtyard that our dementia care residents are free to walk around in and enjoy the memory gardens, water wall and putting green. Our Alzheimer care residents enjoy visiting their neighbors in the other cottages and attending activities throughout the day. Our activity programs run throughout the day and include many interactive games, music and special plays and events designed to stimulate the mind while having fun.
Our daycare/respite services are available to give relief to the in-home caregiver, while providing a socially stimulating environment for those with Memory Loss.
